Join Our Mission to Transform Lives: Become a Social Worker

About Us: Social Work Workforce Consortium

The Consortium connects students, educators, current social work professionals and employers to the compassionate and empowering field of social work. Its targeted purpose is to grow the state’s social worker workforce practicing in New Mexico. It advances seamless education to social work career pathways.

Our consortium is for current professionals working in the field or looking for new opportunities and for future social workers wanting resources and advice on getting started.

Why we do what we do.

We know firsthand the difference social workers can make.

New Mexico’s persistent social worker shortage means lost opportunities for New Mexicans to improve their lives.

  • Social workers provide critical in-community, direct behavioral health care services and connect New Mexico residents to resources that improve their physical, mental and economic well-being.
  • Social workers help put to good use public and private funds to lift-up individuals and communities so that they may thrive.
  • The stark statewide shortage of social workers  persists across many fields of practice (e.g., behavioral health, criminal justice, child welfare, schools, gerontology, health, poverty, early childhood, social policy, administration and management, etc.)
  • Without a deep reservoir of social workers, thousands of New Mexico residents miss out on the opportunity to effectively improve their lives and create a more promising future for themselves and their families.

Consortium Leadership

The Consortium is comprised of a volunteer executive committee. Consortium Action Teams closely assess legislative/regulatory issues, capacity building and other workforce related topics. The executive committee meets monthly and engages a broader group of social workers and employers through meetings throughout the year.

The Consortium’s mission-driven efforts are funded through state appropriated dollars. New Mexico Health Resources, a healthcare recruitment and retention nonprofit, is the fiscal sponsor for the state funding.
